Stroll down Bahnhofstrasse – Zurich, Switzerland’s main shopping street – Pt 1. | Autumn 2021【4K】

Introduction

Join me on an early morning stroll along Bahnhofstrasse in Zürich from the main station Zürich Hauptbahnhoff (HB) to Lake Zürich.

Bahnhofstrasse is known as one of the world’s most expensive and exclusive shopping avenues, with designers like Gucci, Luis Vuitton and Versace all having stores there. Additionally, it is the centre of Swiss banking with major Swiss banks UBS and Credit Suisse both having their headquarters on Paradeplatz, which is halfway down Bahnhofstrasse.

Stroll details

Starting in front of Zürich HB station, with the statue of Alfred Escher looking down Bahnhofstrasse in front of us, we cross Bahnhofplatz and start strolling along Bahnhofstrasse towards Zürich Lake.

On our way along this world famous shopping street, with the trams running along it, we pass numerous designer stores and boutiques. At this time of year, in late November, we also see the preparations for Zürich’s Christmas celebrations, such as the wooden huts that are dotted along the street.

After about 9 minutes of strolling, we reach Paradeplatz, the center of Swiss banking, housing the Head Offices of both UBS and Credit Suisse. Here, we turn right and walk along the front of the Credit Suisse building, before crossing the square and walking back to the main street.

Continuing on along Bahnhofstrasse, we pass the flagship store of chocolatier, Sprungli and more designer stores, until the stores end and we pass the impressive building of the Swiss National Bank on our left and start to see the lake in front of us.

Crossing Talstrasse and Bürkliplatz, we finish the stroll looking out across the lake.
