Ällenboden to Ahornen
Summary: This section of the hike takes us from the holiday homes of Ällenboden, along the edge of Brünellistock to the homes at Ahoren. This section is the most technical and difficult of the entire hike, being made up of narrow gravel tracks that are often littered with fallen rock.
From Ällenboden, we turn right on to a gravel track, which leads upwards, with wonderful views across the valley to the mountains opposite. We follow the track until it ends at a meadow.
Entering the meadow, we turn left and follow a grass and dirt track as it leads across the meadow and into the forest.
Joining a rough dirt track that is in places nothing more than a scramble over rocks and exposed tree roots, we make our way up and then along the edge of Brünellistock.
A warning sign gives us a timely reminder of the danger of rock falls on these exposed mountain tracks “Do not linger”. Followed a short distance later, by an example of such a rock fall.
Yes, even at this relatively low altitude, that is the remains of snow and ice, even in early July.
Crossing this patch of snow and ice, we continue to pick our way along this narrow track, until we eventually enter a more wooded area, even here though there is evidence of more rock falls with areas of stone that have to be carefully crossed.
Eventually, the trees open out and we get our first site of the holiday homes at Vorder Ahornen. As we carry on through alternating areas of trees and more open space, the path continues as a rough track, covered in places with fallen rocks.
Eventually, the path turns to the right and starts to descend, before opening out into a meadow, which we cross and arrive at the signpost at Vorder Ahornen.
Turning left, we make our way up a gravel track between the holiday homes, until we arrive at the signpost at Ahornen.
