Ahornen-Rundweg

July 2018 – Ahornen-Rundweg (823)

Girsboden to Obersee

Summary: This final section of the hike takes us from the edge of the higher altitude forest areas down through the meadows and the Niederseewald forest, back to our starting point at Obersee. Much like the start of the hike, this section is classified as a hiking trail and is mostly over tarmac lanes and well defined gravel paths

From the signpost at Girsboden we turn left onto  the gravel path, and follow it as it changes to a dirt track through the remaining woodlands.

Eventually, we reach a a gate, and emerge into the open meadows and the spectacular views once again of the surrounding mountains.

Walking down the grassy path through the meadow, we reach a tarmac lane, which we follow to the right as it passes the first building.

Following the tarmac lane as it gently descends through the meadows, we pass a number of houses and farm buildings, until we see the buildings of Lochberg ahead of us.

Passing this final group of buildings, we carry on down the lane a short distance, until a signpost directs us to turn almost back on ourselves and onto a gravel track that leads into the woodlands of the Niederseewald forest.

Following the gravel track, we eventually reach a signpost and join a smaller dirt path that leads down through the forest to where it crosses the tarmac lane.

Crossing the lane, we rejoin the dirt path and follow it down through the remaining part of the forest. It is slightly steeper and covered by rocks in places, but still easily passable.

Finally, ahead of us through the trees, we glimpse the buildings at Obersee and emerge back out into the car park that we started from.
