Giessbach Hotel to Giessbach See GbB
Summary: From our start at the public car park on the road to the hotel, this section of the hike takes us through the grounds of the impressive hotel and down to the boathouse on the edge of the lake.
The signpost at the start of the hike directs us down a gravel path that runs in front of a small wooden structure (just before the entrance to the public car park.
The path here descends through a wooded area, crossing the road down to the hotel, and passing some of the hotel complex’s other buildings, before we arrive at another gravel path, which we turn right on to.
Following this second path down for a short distance, we arrive at the guest’s car park and a signpost directing us to turn left and walk past the hotel to get to Giessbach/See.
Walking along in front of the hotel, we see the summit station for the hotel’s funicular railway that leads down to the boathouse at the lake. Just to the right of the station as we look at it, a small signpost directs onto a path leading down from the hotel.
The path down from the hotel to the lakeside is a well maintained gravel path, that initially winds its way down the side of the hill, offering views through the trees of the waterfall and the stream it falls into.
Eventually, the path levels out as we arrive at the shore of Brienzersee, offering us our first unobstructed view of the lake and the mountains on the other side of it.

From here, we carry on walking along the gravel path and up some steps that lead to a small bridge over the raging waters of the stream as it flows into the lake.
After crossing the bridge and following the gravel path for a short distance, we arrive at a flight of stone steps that lead down to the waters edge and the boathouse itself.
