June 2018 – Wasserfälle am Lag da Pigniu (679)

The waterfalls back to Andiast (and on to Talstation Sesselbahn)

Summary: This section of the hike covers the entire walk back from the waterfalls to the start of the hike at Andiast, and on to our car at Talstation Sesselbahn. The majority of this section just involves retracing our steps, so the details will focus on the one section that differs from the route taken to get to the lake.

Leaving the waterfalls and making our way back along the wide, easy eastern trail to the dam should have been a simple stroll, were it not for the fact that in the hour or so since I passed previously, the workmen removing the debris from this side of the lake had totally blocked the track with a large pile of fallen trees, dirt and lumps of frozen snow. I was able to scramble across the pile, but had I had small children or a pushchair with me, it would have been impossible. On reaching the end of the track at the dam, it became evident that the track now had a sign across it indicating that it was closed.

From here, it was a short stroll back across the dam to where the two trails round the lake met

The view from the dam looking back down the valley.

From there, we retrace our earlier route, back up the track to the picnic area, along the narrow trails, carefully making our way downhill this time, until we reach the place where the route meets routes 43 and 85 and then back along the lane, until we arrive at the family BBQ area and a quick stop to refill water bottles with some of the fresh Alpine spring water.

A short distance after the rest area, we reach the sign post shown earlier, and instead of going back through the electric fence and down into the valley, we remain on the gravel track, as it takes us back across the meadows, but further up the side of the valley than our earlier route.

The track winds its way through more of the wooden huts and the occasional wooded area, before becoming a paved lane and continuing until it once again joins up with the other track that we took on our way to the lake.

From there, it is a short walk to the village and the end of the official trail, followed by there another 20 minutes or so walk down the lanes, back to our parking place at Talstation Sesselbahn.
