Trail Details
Bad Ragaz to Altes Bad Pfäfers
Summary: This first section of the hike takes us through the town of Bad Ragaz and then along the floor of the Tamina River Gorge to Altes Bad Pfäfers.
Exiting the station, you can see the signpost indicating the start of the hike across the road in front of you. There are a multitude of hiking and cycling signs, but the one you want is the one pointing towards Bad Pfäfers.
The hike takes us through the center of the town, first along Bahnhofstrasse and then Bartholoméplatz and Amplatz, where we pass the Dorfbad, the village public baths. Eventually , we reach the junction with Valenserstrasse, which we cross and follow the road along Badstrasse to the edge of the town.
Passing the last of the buildings, we follow the road as we reach the entrance to the gorge, with its towering walls visible ahead of us.
This first part of the hike proper is over the semi-made road that leads to Altes Bad Pfäfers. Care should be taken as the road is open to traffic, but is usually only used by the hourly bus service that runs between Bad Ragaz and Altes Bad Pfäfers.
With the fast flowing waters to our left, we walk along the road as it follows the Tamina River, twisting and turning beside us.
After about 45 minutes of walking along the road through the gorge, the end of the road and the buildings of Altes Bad Pfäfers appear before us, marking the end of this first section of the hike.
