Pfäfers to Rosenbergli
Summary: This section of the hike takes us from Pfäfers to Rosenbergli, as we descend back to the valley floor and back to Bad Ragaz
From the center of Pfäfers, we once again walk along the road as it leaves the village and starts to descend, initially the footpath is on the left of the road, but a pedestrian crossing takes us to the righthand side at the edge of the village. From here, you get a nice view across the valley to the mountains beyond.
Eventually, we reach a bus stop and a signpost directs us to follow a narrower road as it runs off to the right. Following this road, we head towards a group of houses, with a small vineyard on the slopes of the hill in front of them.
A signpost directs us to turn right on to a gravel track that descends past a solitary house. The gravel track continues down, bounded on one side by a solid wall, until it becomes grass covered. We eventually arrive at a solitary bench, which is where we stopped for an early lunch.
For lunch, I paired pasta salad and a mixture of fruits with a glass of Gallus 612 Old Style Ale from Switzerland’s oldest brewery, the St Gallen based Brauerei Schützengarten. This brown ale style beer was an enjoyable accompaniment to the lunch as I sat in the peaceful settings overlooking the valley and the mountains beyond. |
Lunch over, we continue our descent, on what was the Porta Romana trading route, but is now just a continuation of the grassy trail. The path descends, eventually becoming steeper and more dirt covered as we wind our way down the hillside, until we arrive at the edge of another vineyard and we follow the track through the middle of it.
At the edge of the vineyard, we turn left and continue our descent through a wooded area that eventually opens out to become a road and leads to the main road. This is Rosenbergli, the end of this section of the hike.
