Guscha to Berghotel Schönhalden
Summary: Lunch over, it is now time to leave the summit, and take the narrow trail further along the ridge, past the cross until we reach the steep trail back down the side of the ridge. Eventually rejoining the trail leading back to Berghotel Schönhalden.
The journey down from the summit starts by following the narrow trail along the ridge. The trail is well marked an narrow, but does have some steep parts as we start our descent, as can be seen in the images to the right.
Eventually, we arrive at the cross on top of the ridge.

And continue our way down until the trail markers indicate that the trail turns back on itself as we start to zig zag our way down the side of the ridge.

In places the path down is steep, with loose stones and hard to spot markers, so care needs to be taken until you reach the more gentle slopes towards the bottom.
Eventually, we arrive at the more open Alpine moors and follow the sometimes hard to spot trail markers down towards the pastures and arrive back at the signpost marking where the circular part of the hike ends and the path back through the forests and over the final pastures towards the berghotel and gondola station.
Alternative start
If the times of the gondalas don’t work for you and you are driving then an alternative is to park in one of the small parking areas on Sässliwiesenstrasse (reached by carrying on past the gondola station) and then walking up to the bergstation. This will add about three-quarters of an hour to each end of the hike.
