The track from Eigeliswald

Leaving the small car park at Eigliswald, we initially follow a farm track through the pine trees, until we emerge into the open meadows with their farm buildings and livestock.

The signpost marking where the trail splitsWe continue up along the farm track, passing through the gate in the electric fence, until we reach the signpost at Rasishütte, showing our trail splitting in two. We turn to the left and start crossing the open pasture, and its gentle incline. until we reach a small area of pine trees. Continuing through a gap in the trees, we eventually emerge into a into the valley of open pasture, dotted with farm buildings.

The grassy, well marked trail continues past the farm buildings, until we reach a gate and join a wider grass and gravel covered track, leading us gently upwards towards the main forest of pine trees.

Eventually, the track arrives at a signpost, directing us to turn to our right, across the meadow towards the forest. Looking back the way we have comes gives a wonderful view of the meadows and the mountains, still partially covered in the remains of the winter snow, in the distance.

We reach a metal gate, which leads us into the pine forest itself. Here, the dirt track is rougher, dotted with rocks, and at the time of walking, in places muddy from the recent rain. The trail continues upwards, winding its way through the trees, occasionally affording us with a view of the mountains beyond, until eventually, we arrive at the end of this part of the hike, the signpost at Stägen, which marks a split in the trail.
