June 2018 – Urwaldweg Bödmeren (826)

Saum to Eigeliswald

Summary: This final section of the hike takes us in a northern direction, back towards our starting point at Eigeliswald. This whole section is downhill and on gravel farm tracks,, meaning that good progress can be made. Initially we are above the tree line, before descending through the pine trees and emerging into the lower meadows. Eventually, we arrive back at the signpost at Rasishütte and re-join the track back to the parking place.

From Uber Saum, we turn right to take the gravel track, initially passing though a gate in the electric fence. As can be seen from the photos below, in this area, there are cows, goats and horses, so care needs to be taken passing them. Particularly if you have dog, which need to be kept under control.

After passing through another gate in the electric fence, the gravel farm track continues. Initially, we are walking along the edge of the valley, with a wonderful view of the farm buildings at Unter Saum on the valley side, and the town of Muotathal in the distance.

The gravel track continues on downwards, first through the pine forest, where it eventually reaches a larger track that we turn left on to. This track eventually leaves the forest and emerges into the lower meadows, near Gschwänd.

As we continue to follow the track, we eventually arrive back at the sign post at Rasishütte, and from there join the part of the track that we walked up earlier and make our way back down to the car park at Eigeliswald.
