June 2018 – Urwaldweg Bödmeren (826)

Stägen to Bödmeren

Summary: This section of the hike takes us further up through the forest, and out in to the sparse landscape bare of vegetation in many places, and then across steel Alpine meadows as we make our way around the base of Roggenstökli to Bödmeren, where we turn south.

The signpost at Stägen marks a split in the trails. the lower trail to the left, takes you around the left hand side of Roggenstökli to Bödmeren, where it meets up with the right hand trail that we take.

Initially, we carry on through the pine forests, on the rough, rock and root covered trail as it makes its way upwards, becoming steeper and harder to cross at times.

Eventually, as the pine trees thin out, we are greeted by the sparse rock strewn landscape, interspersed by scant vegetation. The route is harder to follow here as there is no natural track, but the trail markers are well placed and it is easy to follow them from one to the next.

As we carry on across this landscape, we start to climb again, and as the rocks start to thin out and the meadows and trees take over, we arrive at the steep slopes of the flank of Roggenstökli. A narrow trail makes its way along the flank, half way up the side of the mountain, with the valley to our right and the impressive, steep side of Roggenstökli to our left.

As we make our way along the edge of the valley, with some dotted remains of the winter snows laying in shaded areas in the valley bottom, we eventually arrive at the signpost that marks Bödmeren, where our trail turns to the right to continue on southwards towards Äbenenmatt. It is also here, that the other trail from Stägen that went around the other side of Roggenstökli meets us.
