This is more of a weekend pub crawl than a hike, but it’s beer related, so worthy of a post in the blog.
Scottish craft brewery Brewdog own a network of bars throughout the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. If the excellent range of craft beers (both from Brewdog and other craft breweries) wasn’t reason enough to visit the bars, Brewdog have an “International Beer Visa”, to encourage people to visit different bars. Each bar has its own visa stamp, and in addition to to the challenge of collecting different stamps, Brewdog has grouped together bars into a series of challenges, such as Homedog for the bars around Aberdeen and Ellon. Another of these challenges is “The Big Smoke”, which involves visiting all of the bars in London. It is this challenge that I am attempting to complete this weekend.
I spent a fair amount of time planning the order that I would visit the bars, how long to spend in each one and the route I would take between them. The final plan ended splitting the bars in half over the 2 days and visiting those in the west and south on Saturday, staying overnight in Croydon. Then Sunday would cover those to the east and north, with the exception of Clerkenwell, which had to be added to Saturday due to being closed on Sunday.
The weekend started with a flight from Zürich to London Luton on Friday evening and a stay in a hotel close to the airport so that I could be ready to start as soon as the bars opened Saturday morning.
