Trail Details

Hinter Brosmatt to Dundelegg

Summary: This section of the hike takes us from Hinter Brosmatt, past the restaurant at Fluonalp Lengegghütte and on up across the Alpine meadows to the ridge at Dundelegg.

From the signpost at Hinter Brosmatt, we leave the road and take a small dirt and rock path that leads off from the right-hand side of it. Initially crossing open meadows dotted with a few trees, the trail eventually enters a more wooded section before once again opening out into the open meadows shown to the right. We will reach the left-hand most electricity pylons that can just be made out in the full size picture later in the hike.

Crossing this meadow area, on the grassy path, we once again see the road that leads up to Fluonalp. Following the grass track, we cross the road and walk over the remaining meadows until we join the road once again at Fluonalp Lengegghütte.

Joining the road, we walk past the car park and on past the cheese making huts, until the tarmac road turns to gravel as it continues to climb past more farm buildings and changes to a concrete road as it starts to climb more steeply, before leveling out for a while as we walk past more buildings.

At these last set of buildings, the trail was difficult to follow as the track was blocked with an electric fence that didn’t have the usual area to open. After ducking under the fence, I was able to continue along the marked track as it narrowed to a more rocky path and a set of rocks off to the side provided an area to sit and have lunch, while admiring the view across the valley to the lake below.

Lunch

For lunch, I paired traditional Swiss cheese, Salad and a selection of cold meats with a glass of Calypso from Siren Craft Brew.

Calypso is a refreshing and light sour Berliner Weiss style beer, just right for a hot day like today.

After lunch, it was back on to the rocky path as it made its way steeply upwards  towards the top of the ridge and the signpost at Dundelegg (just visible in the picture below).

At the top of the ridge we get wonderful views not only back the way we have come, but also of the snow covered mountain peaks in the opposite direction.
