Trail Details

Dundelegg to Chringe

Summary: This section of the hike starts with the most strenuous climb of the hike as we climb from Dundelegg (1726m) to Rückenegg (1960m), before the trail flattens out as we walk along the side of Mändli to Chringe.

From the signpost at Dundelegg, we turn right (the image to the left is taken from the other side of the post, hence showing Dundelegg to the left) along the ridge as we climb to Rückenegg. The path here is a mixture of grass and dirt, but is well marked and, with the exception of the steepness, is fairly easy going.

Taking us under the power lines, the path continues its climb, giving an amazing 360° panorama of the climb ahead and the mountains and valleys to either side and behind us.

As we get nearer to Rückenegg, in places the trail moves from the center of the ridge, closer to the edge and in some places, all that separates us from a steep drop is a simple wire fence.

Eventually, we arrive at the signpost at Rückenegg. The ridge path continues on upwards to the summit of Mändli, but we turn right to make our way to Chringe.

Initially, the path here is much as before, dirt and grass and fairly wide. Soon however, we find ourselves on a narrow dirt path, littered with rocks as we make our way along the side of Mändli. In places, the path is covered by rockfalls that have been flattened out to continue the path across.

Care needs to be taken here to ensure that the fallen rocks are stable and won’t move under your feet.

Eventually, the path approaches the electricity pylons that are placed in the gap between Mändli and Rossflue and we reach the signpost that marks the end of this section of the hike.
